Our Beliefs

What We Believe

(Doctrinal Statement)

1.   The Bible

The Bible is the inspired, inerrant, infallible, perfect Word of God. As English-speaking people, God has divinely preserved His Word in the English language in the Authorized King James 1611 only. The Scriptures contained in the Bible are the final authority in all matters of faith and practice.

Psalm 119:89; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:19-21

2.   Creation

God directly created the world in six, 24-hour days as described in the book of Genesis. Man was originally created in the image of God, and the rest of creation was made and reproduced “after their kind.”

Genesis 1; Genesis 2; Exodus 20:11; Psalm 33:6, 9; John 1:1-3; Colossians 1:15-17

3.   The Trinity/The Godhead

God is One God in three equal Persons – God the Father, God the Son (whose name is Jesus Christ), and God the Holy Spirit/Ghost. The 3 Persons of God are One in the same, perfect, holy, and eternal.

Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:18-19; 2 Corinthians 13:14; Colossians 2:8-9; 1 John 5:7

4.   The Deity of Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is God in the flesh and the only begotten Son of God. Though eternally existing, Jesus Christ was virgin born on the Earth, conceived by the Holy Ghost. Christ was and still is sinless and died for the sins of the whole world, so that whosoever can be saved.

Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:18-25; John 1:1-4, 10-14; John 10:27-30; John 14:6-10; John 20:24-29; Philippians 2:5-8; 1 Timothy 3:16

5.   The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is part of the Godhead that indwells and seals believers at the moment that a person is born again. The Holy Spirit convicts of sin, of judgement, and of righteousness while bearing witness of the Truth of the Gospel by drawing sinners to the Saviour.

Genesis 1:2; John 14:16-18, 26; John 16:7-11; Ephesians 4:30

6.   The Local Church

The church is the assembly of baptized believers for the cause of glorifying God, building up the believer, and carrying out the Great Commission. The local church is autonomous and independent answering only to God with two offices – The Pastor as its leader and Deacons. The local church has been given two ordinances to keep – Baptism and the Lord’s Supper.

Matthew 16:18; Mark 16:15; Acts 2:41-42; Acts 5:42; Acts 20:28-32; 1 Corinthians 11:23-34; 1 Corinthians 12:12-14; Ephesians 1:22-23;1 Timothy 3

7.   Salvation

Salvation is a free gift from God to all people. No work or deed is good enough to receive salvation. An individual is saved (the Bible term is “born again”) only by grace through faith. A person can and will be saved if this person knows:

·      He/She is a sinner

·      The punishment for sin is eternal death in Hell

·      God loves all people

·      God sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, to die for the sins of all people

·      Jesus died, was buried, and rose again as the Saviour to pay for the sins of all people

·      To be saved from Hell and claim a home in Heaven, a person must call upon the name of Jesus Christ in faith to save him/her, believing that Jesus promises to save.

John 1:12-13; John 3:3-21; Acts 16:31; 2 Corinthians 5:17; Ephesians 1:7; Ephesians 2:8-9; Colossians 2:13; Hebrews 7:25; 1 Peter 1:18-19

8.   Baptism

Baptism is completed by immersion in water following the command and example of our Lord Jesus Christ only after a person has received salvation from Christ. Baptism symbolizes the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Baptism does not save anyone from sin, hence why it is referred to as believer’s baptism. It is one of the two ordinances given to the authority of the local church (the other being the Lord’s Supper).

Matthew 3:6, 13-17; Matthew 28:19; John 3:23; Acts 2:41; Acts 8:35-39; Romans 6:4

9.   Heaven

Heaven is a literal, eternal home for everyone who has been born into the family of God through the salvation of Jesus Christ.

Luke 15:7; John 14:1-6; 2 Corinthians 5:8; Philippians 1:23; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18

10.    Hell

Hell is a literal, eternal place for those who reject Jesus Christ as their Saviour. This place consists of fire and torment, and the souls in Hell are eternally separated from God.

Mark 9: 43-48; Luke 16:19-31; Revelation 20:10-15

11.    Second Coming of Christ

Jesus Christ will come again soon to rapture His Church (the born-again believers in Christ) before the tribulation period. The rapture is the snatching away of the bride of Christ (His Church) while leaving behind those who have not been saved. The rapture is imminent and literal. After the tribulation period, Jesus Christ will literally rule and reign on the Earth for a thousand years before He creates a new Heaven and a new Earth.

Acts 1:11; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; Titus 2:13; Revelation 19:11-16; Revelation 20:1-6

12.    Sin

Every person has a sin nature originating from Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Sin separates a person from God. Sin must be paid or atoned for. Every person has sinned and fallen short of God’s glory and perfection. Jesus Christ is the only One who can forgive a person of their sin.

Genesis 3; Romans 3:10-23; Romans 5; Romans 6:23

13.    Eternal Security of the Believer

Anyone who has been born into the family of God is saved forever and cannot lose their salvation. A person does nothing by works to obtain salvation, so a person can do nothing by works to lose their salvation. Christ did it all for us.

John 10:27-30; Romans 8:35-39; Ephesians 2:8-9; Ephesians 4:30; 1 Peter 1:3-5

14.    Separation

Believers should exemplify Christ and should be set apart from the world. This means living above reproach and living in the image of Christ to please God. Believers are separated from the world because they have been saved, not to obtain salvation. Individuals born into the family of God are not supposed to go back into the world to be like the world. Rather, saved people should go back into the world different from the world to shine the light of Christ and show that Jesus Christ has made a change in them.

Matthew 5:16; Romans 12:1-2; 2 Corinthians 5:17; 2 Corinthians 6:14-7:1; 2 Timothy 2:19; 2 Timothy 3:1-5; 1 Peter 2:9-10; 1 John 2:15-17
